What is TCRAT ?

TCRAT stands for Total Coronary Revascularization via Anterior Thoracotomy – a revolutionary, minimally invasive technique for heart bypass surgery.

Unlike traditional bypass surgery that involves cutting through the chest bone (sternotomy),
TCRAT is performed through a small incision between the ribs on the left side of the chest.

Key Benefits of TCRAT
No sternotomy
Faster recovery
Smaller scar
Less pain
Lower risk
sternotomy

What is MICS ?

MICS stands for Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery – a group of surgical techniques that treat heart conditions through small incisions instead of opening the chest.

MICS is used for various procedures like:

♦ Valve replacements (aortic or mitral)

♦ Coronary artery bypass in selected patients

Benefits of MICS:

♦ Smaller cuts (2–3 inches)

♦ Less blood loss

♦ Shorter hospital stay

♦ Faster return to daily life

♦ Cosmetically better outcomes (especially for young patients)

FAQ's

TCRAT (Total Coronary Revascularization via Anterior Thoracotomy) is a new, advanced type of heart bypass surgery that does not require opening the chest bone (sternum). Instead, it is done through a small incision between the ribs, making it much less invasive than traditional surgery.
Because TCRAT avoids cutting the chest bone, most patients experience much less pain compared to traditional open-heart surgery. Recovery is more comfortable, and many patients are able to move around within a day or two.
TCRAT is ideal for patients who:
♦ Need bypass surgery
♦ Have suitable coronary anatomy
♦ Prefer a minimally invasive approach
♦ Dr. Vamshidhar will evaluate your heart condition and scans to determine if TCRAT is the right choice for you.
Recovery after TCRAT is generally much faster:
♦ Most patients go home within 3–5 days
♦ Many return to normal daily activities in 2–3 weeks
♦ There’s no need to wait for the chest bone to heal, which normally takes 6–8 weeks in traditional surgery

TCRAT is slightly more expensive than standard bypass surgery because it uses specialized instruments and techniques. However, the shorter hospital stay, quicker recovery, and fewer complications can make it more cost-effective overall. You can discuss cost estimates and insurance coverage with the hospital’s billing team.
